Sexual and Physical Abuse Policy

 All students will be treated with dignity and respect and have the right to have their needs met in a safe environment.

 Ensuring the safety of the student is paramount.

Appropriate procedures for dealing with cases of abuse or neglect will be put in place.(also refer to disclosures policy/protocol between MOE/STA and CYF)

 Adults will be receptive and sensitive to students so that the students feel listened to and

believed.

The school will use the most appropriate agency for sexual abuse and the most appropriate agency for physical abuse and/or neglect in terms of gaining advice/reporting/seeking counselling/support.

The Health Curriculum will provide students with the opportunities to increase their assertiveness skills in dealing with uncomfortable situations.

The Police will be notified.

 Dependant on the nature/circumstances of the abuse and on the advice of external agencies parental contact will be made by the school.
